Have you wondered what a Physiotherapist actually does and how they can help your body? Many of us have health care funds that provide coverage for Physiotherapy although often don’t use it unless an injury occurs and you feel your body is in pain. However, did you know that Physiotherapist can also help you even when you aren’t in pain?
Physiotherapy I think can better be explained by our American collogues who call it ‘Physical Therapy’. A form of therapy that uses physical mechanics to help aid your body’s function. Here at our "the nepal physio" startup we are musculoskeletal ,neuro and cardio Physiotherapists. That means we treat the muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerve ,heart, lungs, bones and almost all part of your body. Our aim is to provide a ‘hands on treatment at comfort of your home and soon we are planning to run our venture clinic with gym , and hospitals ’.In nepal this is usually what people think of in terms of ‘having a massage’ when you come for your physiotherapy session. This form of hands-on therapy helps in releasing deep tissue triggers in your muscles and mobilise stiffened joints.Physiotherapists can also help in other physical ways. If you are planning to start a new sport or return to an old activity, Physiotherapists can screen your body for injury prevention and diagnose any muscles that may be weak or tight. Screening for injuries can help your body’s overall function and ensure you can perform at your best. Muscles imbalances, poor postural position and joint stiffness can all cause your body to be more prone to injuries.
Physiotherapists are experts in body mechanics. Advice on the right mobility movements (stretches) or exercises for strength and stability can all be guided by a Physiotherapist. Finding out what the best exercises and stretches for your body are, can help you function at your full capacity.
Physiotherapist are also trained in movement assessment and ergonomics. See our previous blogs on running biomechanics, dance assessment, work desk set up and postural loading.
You don’t need to have an injury to see a Physiotherapist. Understanding how you body moves and functions can help you self manage and take care of your body’s needs. If you haven’t come to a physiotherapist session this year, we would love to meet you and help your body function at its best.
Physiotherapy is often used to help recover motor function and movement of joints, muscles and tendons in individuals who are affected by disability, illness or injury.
Neurophysiotherapy is a specialist branch of physiotherapy dedicated to improving the function of patients who have suffered physical impairment caused by neurological conditions.
The brain is able to both lose and form new connections, a phenomenon called neuroplasticity. Neurophysiotherapy is different from traditional physiotherapy in that it takes advantage of this phenomenon, helping the brain to form new synaptic connections. In effect, it rewires the brain to learn or re-learn tasks and abilities.
Neurological physiotherapists are experienced and trained to treat neurological conditions with the aim to provide interventions which assist an individual to regain or maintain their maximum movement and functional independence. This is achieved by aiding in the development of new pathways through repetition and exercise.
